Stuffed bread

Bread stuffed with cheese and spinach

|

Some people cannot imagine breakfast or dinner without bread or rolls. If you are bored with standard cold sandwiches, it is worth trying something new, like stuffed bread. Its shape does not resemble a sandwich, and inside, it hides a delicious filling that would normally be spread on a sandwich. Cheese is a main ingredient in this stuffed and toasted bread. After baking, the cheese becomes melted, and combined with spinach and pesto it tastes awesome.

Ingredients for stuffed bread.

  • 130 g mushrooms
  • 300 g zucchini
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 140 g spinach
  • 1 teaspoon of herbs de Provence
  • 4 tablespoons of green pesto
  • 250 g cheese e.g. Gouda
  • bread

How to make stuffed bread.

Cut off the top layer of a round-shaped bread, about 3 centimetres from the top. After that, hollow the inside of the bread, reaching almost to the crust but leaving about 2 centimetres of soft bread around it.

Pour 1 tablespoon of olive oil into a frying pan, add finely chopped mushrooms, grated zucchini and herbs de Provence. Fry it over medium heat for 4 minutes.

Pour 1 tablespoon of olive oil into a second pan, add mashed garlic clove and spinach. Fry it over medium heat for 3 minutes.

Dice the cheese into small cubes.

Arrange the layeres of spinach, cheese, a little pesto, then mushrooms inside the bread. In total, a few layers of the same ingredients should be created, so the steps need to be repeated a few times.

Put the cheese on the top, cover with the previously cut off top of the bread.

Place the bread in an oven preheated to 170 degrees Celsius and bake for 30 minutes.

Good to know when making stuffed bread.

I used a wheat, round-shaped bread with a diameter of 17 centimetres.

I crumbled the cut off top of the bread because I wanted the pieces of it to stick to the cheese.

The more cheese you put on, the better, especially under the top.

I used fresh spinach, however, it is no problem to use frozen one. If you do so, buy spinach leaves, not a blended spinach mix.
