Hot dog buns
A hot dog bun is a soft, oblong bun in which a frankfurter type sausage is usually served. In its simplest form, the sausage is served with ketchup and mustard.
The best hot dog buns are of course the ones made at home. Nothing can replace their taste. Very often, shop-bought buns have simply an “artificial” taste to them.
Below, I give you the recipe for homemade hot dog buns. Be sure to bake these buns at home.

Ingredients for hot dog buns.
- 500 g all-purpose flour + extra for dusting
- 2 tablespoons of crystal sugar
- 1 full teaspoon of salt
- 20 g fresh yeast
- 120 g lukewarm water
- 2 tablespoons of melted butter
- 2 eggs
- 120 g lukewarm milk
How to make hot dog buns.
Put the yeast into a cup, add 5 tablespoons of lukewarm water (out of the total of 120 g), granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons of flour (out of the total abovementioned amount of flour). Mix and set aside for 10 minutes.
Sift the remaining flour into a bowl, add the risen yeast, salt, 1 egg, the remaining lukewarm water, lukewarm milk and melted butter. Mix the ingredients, knead them for 5-6 minutes, after which cover the bowl with a kitchen cloth and leave the dough to rise for an hour.
Transfer the dough onto a pastry board, lightly dust with flour, then divide it into 10 parts. Roll out each part into a cake measuring 15 by 10 centimetres. Next, roll them along the long side, put the opposite ends slightly underneath so that they become 12 centimetres long and about 4 cm thick. Arrange the buns at equal distance from each other, in a baking tray lined with baking paper, and set them aside covered, to rise for 25-30 minutes.
Crack the egg into a bowl and beat it with a fork, next brush each bun with it. Preheat an oven to 190 degrees Celsius, and once hot, put the buns in. Bake the buns for 20-22 minutes.

The baked rolls can be frozen. However, they should be cooled down first. After defrosting, the rolls will taste just as fresh.
