Cheese rolls filled with zucchini and ham are a delicious snack idea. This snack is perfect for serving at a parties, for breakfast, or even enjoying throughout the day. The base of these rolls is cheese – sliced and grated. After placing it on a baking sheet, melt the cheese in the oven while also gently toasting it. Let the cheese layer cool, fill it with the sautéed zucchini filling, which is you can then combine with cream cheese. Arrange slices of chicken ham on top of the creamy filling and place chopped chives in a wide line. Roll the whole thing into a roll, then cut into smaller pieces. Ingredients for cheese rolls.

  • 200 g cheese slices (10 slices)
  • 150 g grated cheese
  • 125 g flavoured cream cheese
  • 250 g zucchini
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 100 g chicken ham
  • a small bunch of chives
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt

How to make cheese rolls.

Grate the zucchini, skin on, using a large-hole grater. Pour olive oil into a pan, add the crushed garlic, and fry for a few seconds. Then add the grated zucchini and salt and cook over medium heat until the juices from the zucchini evaporate, about 10 minutes. Let the fried zucchini cool.

Arrange the cheese slices side by side on a baking sheet lined with baking paper, and sprinkle with grated cheese. Place the cheese in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) and bake for 6 minutes. Once you removed the cheese from the oven, let it cool.

Combine the cream cheese and cooled zucchini in a bowl, then spread it all over the cooled cheese. Sprinkle chopped chives along one long side, then arrange the ham slices side by side on top, leaving about 5 centimetres (2 inches) free on the side parallel to the chives. Roll the entire thing into a roll, refrigerate for 15 minutes, and then cut it into smaller pieces.

Bake the cheese on a baking tray measuring 26 by 36 centimetres.

When it comes to cheese, choose cream cheese like Philadelphia or a light cheese. Flavoured cheese, such as one with paprika, works well here.

You can cut the roll into any thickness, it’s all up to you. They can be 3-4 centimetres thick or as thin as a centimetre.

You can replace the chives with green onions or Korean buchu chives.

The pork ham can be substituted for poultry ham. It can be either cooked or smoked.
