Falafel with joghurt sauce
Falafel is a vegan dish very popular in Arab countries. It is prepared from chickpeas or beans, shaped into balls coated in sesame.
The falafel I have prepared is not vegan but vegetarian because I added eggs and as you know, vegans do not eat eggs.
I served the falafel with a delicious joghurt-based sauce. I spiced it up a little with chili pepper and green onions.
It was my first attempt at falafel. Before, I had only eaten it in restaurants.
I personally liked it very much, especially when served with sauce. I think it is a dish worth trying. Although it does not contain meat, it is quite filling and additionally its preparation is cheap.

- 1/2 teaspoon of dried chili flakes (or fresh chili)
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
- 2 eggs

Joghurt sauce:
- 2 teaspoons of tahini
- 200 g of natural joghurt
- green onion
- a pinch of cayenne pepper

How to make falafel.
Falafel: put the chickpeas in a blender, add the mushed garlic and blend.
Transfer the blended chickpeas into a bowl, add the cumin, chilis, black pepper, eggs, finely chopped green onion and parsley, salt, coriander, chopped mint leaves and breadcrumbs. Knead the mixture with a spoon or by hand. Once done, form medium-sized balls, flatten them on your hand and coat them in sesame seeds.
Pour the oil into a frying pan and heat it up. Once hot, put on the falafel balls. Fry over a medium heat until golden brown on both sides.
Joghurt sauce: pour joghurt into a cup, add tahini, finely chopped onion, cayenne pepper and salt. Mix.
Serve the falafels with the sauce.

Good to know when making chickpea falafel.
I used canned chickpeas, but you can also cook raw chickpeas by yourself. However, you must remember to soak them beforehand.
I usually use sunflower oil for frying. This was also the case this time.
