Pork ham in cream sauce
This pork ham in a cream sauce is a very simple lunch or dinner dish. The base of the sauce is a cream flavoured with wild garlic, which gives the dish a nice aroma. I know that wild garlic season is over, but I still had a few cubes of frozen wild pesto in my freezer. I had prepared this pesto some month ago and decided to freeze some of it. When I needed to season my dish with something, frozen pesto was a perfect choice.

Ingredients for pork ham in sauce.
- 500 g pork ham
- 1 tablespoon of lard
- 150 g white onion
- 200 g carrot
- 1 and 1/3 teaspoon of salt
- black pepper to taste
- 500 ml water
- 2 tablespoons of pesto (I used wild garlic pesto)
- 100 ml cream (30%)
- 1 tablespoon of potato flour
How to make pork ham in cream sauce.
Dice the pork ham into medium-sized cubes. Put the lard and diced pork ham on a frying pan and fry over a high heat for 2-3 minutes. After that, add finely chopped onion and continue frying, but over a medium heat now for 3-4 minutes. When the onion is slightly browned, add the sliced carrots and the pesto along with 400 ml of water, salt and pepper. Simmer covered, over a low heat until the meat is tender – it took me 25 minutes. Mix the flour with 100 ml of water and cream in a cup and pour it over the meat in the pan. Stirring from time to time, bring it to boil, then keep it on the heat for 2-3 minutes.

If you don’t have wild garlic pesto, use regular pesto, dried wild garlic or add 1-2 cloves of a regular garlic.
Pork ham prepared in this way can be served with potatoes or rice. I served it in pita bread with green lettuce.
