Kabanos salad

Kabanos salad

I do not know about you but for me kabanos salad is a total hit.

Meat-based salads are always a good option when you want your guests to get full just by having salads.

The only obstacle here might be them being vegetarians.

I got the idea of making this salad after buying two packs of delicious, thin kabanos sausage. Of course I could have munched them right there just by themselves but salad was a better way to go.

Also, I got bored with gyros salad, which I had been making for the past three years for almost every dinner party 🙂 I needed change and kabanos salad was like an obvious choice for me.

Ingredients for kabanos salad.

  • 4 boiled eggs
  • 130 g of canned sweetcorn
  • 180 g of kabanos (I used classic pork flavour)
  • 4 halves of marinated red pepper
  • 3 medium pickled cucumbers
  • 70 g of grated cheese

Sauce:

  • a pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 3/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 4 tablespoons of sour cream
  • 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise
  • a bunch of freshly chopped dill

How to prepare kabanos salad.

Boil the eggs until hard. I cooked them for seven minutes – you can keep them in water for an additional minute.

Cut the eggs to medium-sized cubes and the sausages into 1.5 cm long pieces. The marinated peppers should also be cut into cubes or stripes.

Peel the pickled cucumbers and cut them into medium-sized cubes.

Grate the cheese on a large-mesh grater.

Mix all chopped ingredients in a bowl. Add corn, salt, a little cayenne pepper, mayonnaise, sour cream and finely chopped fresh dill. Mix thoroughly. Keep the salad in the fridge.

Good to know when making kabanos salad.

The sausages I used were made from pork and quite thin. You can also use kabanos sausages made from chicken or other meat.

You can substitute marinated peppers with fresh peppers.

The cheese in my salad was Gouda. You can replace it with any type of cheese.

Be very careful with the cayenne pepper. Add no more than a pinch. Pepper is extremely spicy and it is easy to overdo it.
