Hummus
Hummus is a dish that comes from the historical region of Levant and from Egypt. The word hummus literally means chickpeas in Arabic.
So you already know what hummus is made from 🙂 It is based on cooked chickpeas, combined with garlic, tahini (sesame paste), olive oil, lemon juice and spices. The whole thing is then mixed into a homogeneous mass.
Hummus is served as a dip, spread or sauce. It is usually accompanied by fresh vegetables, pita bread or toasted bread.
Due to the fact that it is prepared only from vegetables, it is an excellent dish for vegetarians. So, if you are going to have an event in the near future and you are expecting people who do not eat meat, make some hummus for them. If not, it is still a great option, simply because it is delicious.

Good to know when making hummus.

I only added one clove of garlic because I didn’t want the garlic to dominate the dish. However, if you’d rather have your hummus have a more distinctive flavour, use more garlic.
I served the hummus with vegetables. I opted for red pepper, tomatoes, green cucumber and olives. Hummus also goes well with fresh carrots, crispy bread and pita bread.
