White sausage baked with onion, apple and beer is a dish that works well when served for dinner. After baking, the sausage is juicy inside with a delicate aftertaste of apples, beer and thyme. The sausage skin is slightly browned and crispy. I use raw sausage. I do not scald it or precook it before baking, it is not necessary. I serve the baked white sausage with horseradish and bread. Baked white sausage is equally good when served with creamy mashed potatoes. How to make baked white sausage.
Combine thyme with beer, diced apples, large slices of onion and mustard in a cup, then mix thoroughly. Next, put the whole thing into a casserole dish and arrange the white sausage on it. Cover the dish with aluminium foil or a lid and put in an oven preheated to 190 degrees Celsius. Bake for a total of 50 minutes, after the first 20 minutes of baking, remove the aluminium foil, turn the sausage over and continue baking for another 30 minutes. If you want the sausage to be more browned, you can bake it on the grill function for the last few minutes.
Good to know when making baked white sausage.
I used unpeeled apples. Before combining them with the other ingredients, I washed them very well, removed the seed nests and cut them into pieces.
In this recipe, I used lager-type light beer.
I didn’t slash the white sausage before baking it.
You can replace the fresh thyme sprigs with dry thyme. One level teaspoon of thyme is enough.
