I usually make roasted duck with oranges or apples, because I like the taste of meat emphasized by fruits. In addition to fruits, I often use herbs and other spices to season the duck. I prepare roasted duck mainly for special occasions and for Christmas, I make it less often on an average day.
What I like in roasted duck is crispy skin, soft and juicy meat and delicious taste. The recipe for roasted duck, which you can find below, is for duck baked with apples and dried marjoram. Additionally, I covered the meat with honey, garlic, salt and pepper. I served the roasted duck with red cabbage and baked potatoes.
Ingredients for roasted duck with apples.
- 1 big duck (2 kg)
- 1,5 tablespoon of dry marjoram
- 1,5 teaspoon of salt
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 2 big apples (500 g)
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
How to make roasted duck with apples.
Clean the duck, dry it, then rub it with salt, pepper, honey, marjoram and mushed garlic. Once done, set it aside for an hour.
Cut the apples into quarters. Put some of the apples inside the duck and place some of them in a baking tin. Next, place the duck with its back facing up on the apples and transfer the baking tin to an oven preheated to 220 degrees for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, reduce the temperature to 165 degrees Celsius and bake the duck for an hour. After one hour of baking, carefully remove the baking tin from the oven and turn the duck over. Put the tin back in the oven and continue baking for another hour.
Let the roasted duck rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing.
Good to know when making roasted duck with apples.
If the skin on the duck is very fatty and therefore quite thick, it is worth scoring it in several places with a sharp knife or puncturing it with a toothpick.
When baking duck with apples, it is worth selecting sour or sweet and sour apples for doing so. These types of apples will definitely emphasize the taste of meat.
