Are you looking for an idea for a no-bake fruit dessert? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Desserts in cups are a great idea for a sweet treat that do not require any baking. To prepare such a dessert, you can use practically the same ingredients that you would normally use to make a cake, with a small exception: most of the time sponge cake is replaced with biscuits in cup desserts.

The dessert for which I have the recipe for you is a cup version of a banana cake called banoffee pie. This cake is very popular in England and I had it for the first time a few years ago back there.

Traditional banoffee pie is very sweet due to the amount of caramel sauce used. In the dessert I made, I limited the amount of sugar used to prepare the caramel, yet still it turned out to be quite sweet.

Ingredients for banana dessert.

  • 150 g butter biscuits
  • caramel
  • 2 big bananas
  • 300 ml whipping cream (36%)
  • 2 tablespoons of grated milk chocolate

Homemade caramel sauce:

  • 500 ml milk
  • 150 g caster sugar
  • 70 g unsalted butter

How to make banana dessert in a cup.

Homemade caramel sauce: pour the milk with caster sugar into a pot and bring it to boil. Then reduce the heat to low and cook until the milk has evaporated by more than a half (around 300 ml). From time to time, the caramel should be stirred. At the end add the butter, and dissolve it by stirring. Let the caramel cool down.

Crumble the biscuits, peel the bananas and cut them into pieces. Whisk the cold cream until stiff.

Put some of the crushed biscuits, a few slices of bananas, caramel sauce and whipped cream as separate layers in a cup. Repeat the steps one more time. Sprinkle the top of the desserts with some grated chocolate. Place the finished desserts in the fridge to let them set properly.

Good to know when making banana dessert in a cup.

The milk used for making the caramel sauce can be replaced by a heavy cream. If you do so, cook the caramel for a little less time, otherwise it will be too hard.
