Smoked fish are not only delicious but also very healthy, people should eat them as much as possible. Here is a recipe that will definitely make you want to stick to that habit.
Smoked mackerel has a very intense flavour. Because of that this is probably not on everyone’s top 10.
I have to tell you though, that in combination with the ingredients I used for the spread, the taste of fish was milder.
Both onions and lemon gave it a very fresh, expressive but not too intense flavour.
Ingredients for mackerel spread.
- 1/2 medium size smoked mackerel
- 1/2 medium size red onion
- 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
- 1/8 teaspoon of white pepper
- 2 tablespoons of sour cream
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- pinch salt
How to prepare smoked mackerel spread.
Peel the onion and chop it into small pieces. Blend the fish meat, mustard, pepper, salt, lemon juice and cream in a blender. When the mixture has a creamy consistency, add the chopped onion. Carry on blending for 5 more seconds.
Serve with bread.

Mackerel can be replaced with any kind of smoked fish such as salmon, halibut or trout.
