Strawberry and Rhubarb Drink Recipe

Strawberry and rhubarb compote

Compote is a traditional fruit drink that can be prepared in many ways. It can contain fresh fruit, dried fruit, and frozen fruit. Dried fruit compote, which includes smoked plums, dried apples, and pears, is particularly popular during the holiday season. It also contains aromatic spices such as cloves and cinnamon.

In turn, in the summer and autumn, when fresh, seasonal fruits reign supreme, compotes made of strawberries, rhubarb, cherries, sour cherries, apples, and currants, as well as fruit compotes made of a mixture of different fruits, become very popular. Sugar is added to taste to give the drink additional sweetness because not all fruits used for compote are naturally sweet—some, like rhubarb, can be sour.

One of these delicious and balanced fruit combinations is rhubarb and strawberry compote. Both of these fruits go together perfectly in taste—on the one hand, we have sour rhubarb, and on the other, sweet strawberries. A large amount of fruit used to prepare this homemade drink makes the compote have an intense, fruity and distinct taste. Such a compote perfectly satisfies thirst, works great on hot days and is an ideal addition to dinner dishes.

How to make strawberry and rhubarb compote.

Remove the stalks from the washed strawberries and cut the fruit into large pieces. Cut the washed and thoroughly dried rhubarb stalks into 3-4 cm wide pieces. Cut the orange, along with the peel, into thick slices.

Place the cut rhubarb and strawberries in a larger pot, and add the sugar and water. Bring it to a boil. When the compote starts to boil, simmer for about 6–7 minutes. Then turn off the heat, add the orange slices and leave them to cool.

Before serving, strain the homemade rhubarb and strawberry compote through a sieve to remove any fruit pieces. Store the finished fruit drink in the fridge. It tastes great cold, especially on hot days.
