Cheese and figs salad with dressing

Cheese and figs salad

I often serve cheese with chutney, dried figs, grapes or honey. I really like the combination of the intense taste of cheese with the sweet taste of fruit, which is why I decided to use them in a salad as well. The base of this salad is fresh green mizuna leaves and rocket leaves. Mizuna, or in other words mustard leaves or Japanese mustard, is a herb with a slightly spicy and peppery taste. The leaves of this herb are jagged and have a green or green-purple colour. On the other hand, rocket, often called arugula, has a slightly nutty, spicy taste and jagged green leaves. The leaves of both of these plants have an interesting flavour that perfectly complements the addition of intense cheese and dried figs.

I seasoned the salad with fresh jalapeno peppers and olive oil, honey, lemon juice and mustard dressing. The cheese and fig salad is slightly spicy, slightly sweet and has an aromatic taste. This simple salad is great for lunch, dinner, as an appetizer and as an addition to barbecue. It can be made very quickly, in less than 10 minutes, and its additional advantage is the fact that there is no need to cook anything. I recommend you this recipe for cheese and fig salad and wish you a tasty meal.

How to make salad with cheese and figs.

Wash the mizuna leaves and the rocket leaves, dry them and put them in a bowl. Cut the hard cheese into thin slices, break them in your hands and add them to the leaves in the bowl. Cut the dried figs into slices, cut the jalapeno pepper into cubes, then combine the whole thing with the ingredients in the bowl.

Mix olive oil with honey, lemon juice, mustard and a pinch of salt in a cup. Pour the dressing from the cup over the ingredients in a bowl and mix gently. Store the finished salad in the refrigerator.

Good to know when making salad with cheese and figs.

I used mustard leaves in the salad. Japanese mustard is otherwise known as mizuna. Green and red mizuna are both available at certain shops. I selected a mixture of both, but the green leaves dominated over the red leaves.

I suggest preparing this salad with an intense-tasting cheese, which can be Cheddar, Gouda, Emmentaler or any other hard cheese.

I settled on using liquid acacia honey. The honey in this salad can be replaced with maple syrup.
