Creole seasoning is a combination of dried ground paprika with herbs, salt and pepper. Popular herbs that can be found in this seasoning is thyme, oregano and basil, but you can also opt for rosemary and bay leaves. This spice has a delicate flavour, is aromatic and herbal. Creole seasoning is a great addition to fish, meat and vegetables. You can season with it grilled meat, shrimps, stews, boiled rice, potatoes, pasta or salads.
Ingredients for creole seasoning.
- 2 tablespoons of sweet paprika powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of Cayenne pepper
- 3 teaspoons of onion powder
- 3 teaspoons of garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons of dried oregano
- 2 tablespoons of dried basil
- 1 tablespoon of thyme
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 3/4 teaspoon of black pepper
How to make creole seasoning.
Pour paprika, Cayenne pepper, onion and garlic powder, oregano, basil, thyme, salt and pepper into a bowl. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly. Pour the seasoning into a jar, close it tightly and store it in a cupboard. You can also combine the ingredients with each other using a grinder.
Good to know when making creole seasoning.
You can replace the black pepper with white pepper. You can also add rosemary, ground bay leaf to the seasoning or make your own blend of ingredients by eliminating some and replacing them with others.
The finished spice should be stored in a tightly closed jar or container. I store my seasoning for about two months.
