Chicken legs are something I eat when I don’t have much time to cook. There is probably no meat dinner easier to prepare than meals whose star is chicken legs. Both herbal and spicy marinated legs are quite popular in my home. My husband prefers spicy chicken legs without any doubt, so I try to make them such more often. The main ingredients of the spicy marinade are paprika powder, garlic, onion, pepper, salt and oil. When making this marinade, I also choose fresh garlic and fresh onion. If you prefer granulated garlic and onion powder, you can of course use those instead.
In order for the roasted chicken to be juicy inside and to have a crispy skin on the outside, it is worth baking it at a high temperature, at around 210-215 degrees Celsius. When baking, it is also good to turn the meat over several times, from one hand to prevent the top from getting burnt and on the other hand to properly cook the bottom part.
Roasted chicken legs can be served with a large variety of side dishes. My favourite side dish, which I often serve chicken legs with, is tzatziki sauce. After baking, I serve the chicken legs only with the sauce, I do not serve additional things such as potatoes, rice or other extra additives with it. Other possible additions to spicy chicken legs can be salads, such as sauerkraut, Coleslaw, grilled salads or sauces such as barbecue sauce or garlic sauce. Ingredients for roasted spicy chicken legs.
- 2 kg chicken legs
- 2 teaspoons of sweet paprika powder
- 1,5 teaspoon of spicy paprika powder
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 3 tablespoons of oil
- 3 big cloves of garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon of grated onion
How to make roasted spicy chicken legs.
Combine sweet and spicy paprika with salt, oil, black pepper, mashed garlic and grated onion in a bowl. Wash the chicken legs, dry them with a paper towel, then rub each one thoroughly with the marinade from the bowl. Transfer the prepared legs into a large bowl, cover it with cling film and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. The longer the legs are marinated in spices, the better they taste.
After removing from the refrigerator, place the meat on a baking tray and put it in an oven preheated to 210 degrees Celsius for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Turn the meat over several times during roasting, and before removing it from the oven, check with a fork if it is soft.
Good to know when making roasted spicy chicken legs.
It is a good idea to marinate the chicken legs in the evening and put them in the fridge for the night. The next day, the meat will be aromatic and very tasty.
Spicy chicken legs can also be frozen. All you have to do is combine the meat with the spices, put it in a plastic container, close it tightly and put it in the freezer. Meat prepared in such a way can be stored in the freezer for several months.
Depending on the size of the chicken legs, they can be baked in the oven for less or longer than 1 hour and 15 minutes. I suggest you to first check the meat with a fork 30 minutes into the baking.
