I got a few fresh and delicious figs as a gift and I immediately began to wonder what I could make from them.
I was able to do something sweet and savoury.
This recipe is for the cake. Later I will post one for the other dish I made.
The season for figs is still on so buying them in your local shop should not be a problem 馃檪
Also, I am thinking of doing some homemade jam from that fruit, but I’m not sure if the number of figs that聽I have left will be sufficient at least for one jar.
For now I am sticking to the cake.

Ingredients for walnut cake.
Walnut cake:
- 115 g of plain flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
- 50 g of ground walnut
- 115 g of butter
- 115 g of brown sugar
- 2 eggs
Cream:
- 500 g of mascarpone cheese
- 200 ml of double cream
- 5 spoons of caster sugar
- 1 spoon of lime juice
Additionally:
- 5 figs
- 2 spoons of fig jam
How to prepare walnut cake with figs.
Start with the walnut pie. Grind the sugar with the butter in a聽bowl. The butter should be at room temperature, otherwise it will be difficult to combine it with the sugar. Once the butter and sugar begin to have聽a thick consistency, add the egg yolks to them. Keep mixing. Next, sift the flour and the baking powder progressively into the liquid base. After that, add the crushed walnuts. In a separate bowl whisk the egg whites with a pinch of salt. Afterwards,聽gently combine it with the mixture. Pour the cake mix聽into the baking tin (I used a round-shaped tin of 20 cm in diameter) and bake it for 40 minutes at 160 degrees.
The cream is very easy to make. Insert the mascarpone聽into a bowl, add cream, sugar and lime juice. Whip until it gets a stiff consistency.
Assemble the cake as follows: spread the fig jam on the walnut cake, cover it with the cream聽and聽decorate with a few slices of聽figs.
Enjoy!

Good to know when making walnut and fig cake.
Instead of lime you can use some lemon juice.
When it comes to the cream, be careful not to whisk for too long as the cream can turn into a butter.
