French toast is bread soaked in a bath of egg or, most often, egg and milk, then fried in a pan. French toast can be prepared both in a sweet and a savoury way. Below, I have two recipes for French toast for you. The sweet version of French toast very often contains cinnamon, vanilla, fruits and all kinds of sweet additions. I like to make this version of toast from sweet bread, usually from challah. The savoury version of French toasts contains ingredients such as salt, pepper, herbs and is served with cheese, bacon, ketchup or mayonnaise.

How to make French toasts.
How to make sweet French toasts.
Pour the eggs into a bowl, add orange juice, cream, cinnamon and sugar. Mix all the ingredients, preferably with a hand whisk. Next, soak each slice of Challah bread thoroughly in this bath. Leave the soaked slices for 2-3 minutes, so the Challah can soak well. Put half of the butter into a frying pan and melt it. When the butter in the pan is liquid and hot, place the soaked challah on it. Fry the Challah for 2-3 minutes, then turn it over, add the remaining butter and continue frying for about 2 minutes. Serve the sweet French toast with fresh fruit.
How to make savoury French toasts.
Pour milk into a bowl, add salt, pepper and eggs. Soak each slice of the toast bread in this egg bath. Put some of the butter on a frying pan, heat it up and when the butter is liquid and hot, place the soaked slices of toast bread on it. Fry over a medium heat for 2 minutes on each side. Each time the toast is turned over, add a little butter to the pan. Serve the savoury French toast with crispy slices of bacon, drizzled with maple syrup.
Good to know when making French toasts.
Both fresh and stale bread will work in French toasts. Toast is a very good way for using stale bread.
Each slice of Challah should be about 2.5 centimetres thick.
I usually place the soaked slices of Challah in a rectangular dish and put them aside for a few minutes so that the bread is soaked intensively.
After soaking it in egg and milk, I immediately put the toast bread on the hot butter, I did not put it aside to soak. Toast slices are thinner than slices of Challah and do not take extra time to soak in egg and milk.
